🚀 Going Solo is SOLD OUT!
Demand for indie journalism is growing — and so is Project C’s work to support it
The response to Going Solo, the 6-week workshop for aspiring creator-model journalists, has been incredible. We filled every spot in just a week and a half. Because demand was so high, we’ve opened a waitlist for the next cohort, which we’re planning for April.
As fellow Going Solo instructor Blair Hickman wrote yesterday, this was a leap of faith for us. We piloted this workshop last fall at ONA (thank you for creating space for us, ONA! 🙏) and based on the response we got there, we thought we’d give an expanded virtual workshop a try. We had no real sense of what the response would be.
We know journalists are curious about going independent, but we also know that for many, taking this leap means betting on yourself – without the safety net of a 9-5 job. That’s why this is more than just a workshop. Five out of six of our instructors (me included) are doing this ourselves. We’re building sustainable journalism careers outside of traditional models, right alongside you.
We’re hoping this is just the beginning for the kind of training Project C can do in this space. In addition to the upcoming Spring cohort, we’re thinking about how we build out more training, more access and different types of modalities. The goal is to help more journalists (and aspiring journalists) to find a sustainable path to building their own future in journalism. That means helping you not only decide which newsletter platform to use, but how to find healthcare or affordable tax preparation or an editor. It means partnering with Trusting News to build out more resources to better reflect how credible creator-model journalists can (and are) building trust with audiences. It means figuring out ways to share your good work with the world.
We’re not just helping you start independent journalism careers – we’re helping you sustain them.
More to come! Watch this space!
